The Butterfly Lamp is a floor lamp designed by Tobia and Afra Scarpa for Flos in 1985. It is comprised of a black varnished metal base, contrasting with an adjustable white lampshade made from pleated fabric. The two-sided lampshade can be adjusted to various positions to playfully direct the light in different directions and intensities.
The lamp is in overall great condition, with minor signs of use on the base and fabric, and is also available as a pair.
Tobia and Afra Scarpa have collaborated on several projects for Cassina, Knoll, Flos and B&B Italia, experimenting extensively with different materials and technologies. To them, light design has always represented a privileged design field. To Tobia Scarpa, light represents “the pleasure of playing”, an artificial entity capable of impacting our everyday life.
