The Farmer Chair, designed in 1965 by Gerd Lange for Bofinger, features a solid black oak frame and off-white canvas covers. Its rationalist design focuses on the economy of its components and ease of assembly. The wooden structure is made from eight identical all-wood joints, interlocked and held in place by the canvas cover, while its reclining backrest is adjusted with just two screws.
Both fabric and wood are in good condition, with usage marks consistent with age.
Gerd Lange was a furniture and interior designer born in Germany in 1931. His oeuvre spans designs for furniture, exhibitions, prototypes and office systems. In 1974 he most notably developed a special technology for Thonet to assemble solid wood and polypropylene, giving him the opportunity to design the iconic “Flex Chair”.
