The simple geometry found in Mario Botta’s buildings is also reflected in this lamp — Fidia, designed by Botta for Artemide as a wall lamp features a clear, reduced geometric assemblage of perforated metal plates showing beautiful light and shadow effects once lit.
Botta, who was educated by architect and designer Carlo Scarpa, has always been interested in design and left school at the age of 15 to become a draftsman. Before the swiss architect Mario Botta 1970 opened an architecture practice in Lugano, he worked for Le Corbusier and Louis I. Kahn during his studies. These mentors significantly influenced Botta’s career and aesthetic approach.
Mario Botta’s most important public buildings are the Cathedral at Evry, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Tinguely Museum in Basel.
