Trix & Robert Haussmann, The Lounge Seating, Knoll Intl., Germany, 1988
Mirror, Aluminium, Black Leather
70×81×83 cm
7.500 Euro (per piece)
Designed by Trix and Robert Haussmann in 1988 and manufactured by Knoll International the mirrored “Lounge Seating” is one of the most important icons of post-modern Swiss design. The important Swiss architect couple developed their concept of ‘Critical Mannerism’ through playfully questioning the modernist doctrine of continually inventing the new, while drawing inspiration from art- & architectural history.
Originally named “The New Weissenhof Chair” the “Lounge Seating” is inspired by Mies Van der Rohe’s Weissenhof Chair from 1928. Constructed from aluminum covered with mirror glass and black upholstery, the Hausmanns employ illusionism as a means of material alienation through the optical dissolution of the arm chairs’ volume.
All four arm chairs are available and in very good vintage condition. The mirror glass and the black upholstery are authentic and show only very minor signs of wear.
